Steven Tabbutt’s Clean Sweep

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

We here at MGI are officially blown away by Steven Tabbutt’s mounting success. Every few weeks or so, it seems that Steven would contact us with news of yet another award under his belt.

This morning, when he announced that he has also been accepted into the 3×3 Annual, it also signaled the fact that Steven has made it into literally every Illustration and Fine Art contest that he has entered this year, including American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, Applied Arts, Communication Arts, Spectrum, New American Painting, Studio Visit, 3×3, and Creative Quarterly.

After scooping our jaws off the ground, what can we say but CONGRATULATIONS, STEVEN! Your distinctive vision and incredible work ethic are tremendously inspiring, and it is heartwarming to see you receive the recognition that you most absolutely deserve.

Hip Hip Hooray!

Susan Gal must be getting pretty excited for Sunday’s Awards Ceremony! Her charming picture book “Night Lights” has been nominated for the Northern California Book Award in Children’s Literature as one of the best works by a northern California author published in 2009. Say that 10 times fast!

The 29th Annual Northern California Book Awards will be held April 18th at Koret Auditorium in the San Francisco Main Library at 1pm. Good luck, Susan! We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.

Patti Mollica and Golden Paints

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Golden Paints offer both artists and art enthusiasts a unique opportunity through their “working artists” program, which sends painters out into the world to conduct lectures and demonstrations at various arts organizations, universities, and colleges free of charge. In addition, hands-on classes are offered in which participants are introduced to various lines of acrylics within the Golden family and the diversity of effects achieved.

Our very own Patti Mollica decided back in July of 2007 that this was an ideal job for her, so she began to contact the Golden company. Like so many others, she was ultimately told to wait in line, as “everyone wants to be a Golden Working Artist”. Patti rose to the challenge, and for the last 3 years regularly called and emailed the program’s organizers. Continually restating her enthusiasm and qualifications, her tenacity finally proved successful. Congratulations are in order for Patti Mollica, Golden’s newest “Working Artist”.

Steven Tabbutt Included in the Society of Illustrators 52 Traveling Exhibition

Friday, April 9th, 2010

It seems that our rather tacky joke about Steven Tabbutt’s rabbits going and going was pretty accurate. The latest news surrounding his stunning creation “The Incident” is that it is one of only 40 pieces to be included in this year’s Society of Illustrators 52 Annual Traveling Exhibition.

Congratulations, Steven!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

It seems that we announced acceptance into Creative Quarterly 19 a bit prematurely. We have recently shared Steven Tabbutt’s inclusion, but the wonderful Beppe Giacobbe has also had two of his works selected as “winners”.  Congratulations, Beppe!
