Behind the Scenes at MGI

by Kate Kelly

After having a group meeting the other week, we decided that it might be interesting to give you a better understanding of what it is exactly that the staff at Morgan Gaynin is up to. Aside from the sporadic email or phone conversation, we may seem like apparitions. But, I assure you, we are REAL!  And we keep ourselves very busy by tending to more of the behind-the-scenes action here.

This week, in addition to dealing with our current client’s needs, I also made a big push to contact some of our past editorial clients. I always enjoy reconnecting with art directors from previous jobs, and it’s exciting to develop a sensibility for their aesthetics and suggest new talents to them.

Of course, it’s important to scout out new possible ventures as well. I like the tangibility of books and magazines, and find them an invaluable resource for finding new potential clients for our artists. I spent some time researching untapped magazines and publishers, and have been enjoying learning about what they do while brainstorming about members of our group that might be appropriate fits.

Then, of course, I harass them!

And now for another important part of my job… kicking Paris the cat out of the office!

Daniele creates poster for Children’s Book Fair

Daniele Melani recently created this fabulous image for the poster of the “Petite Edition Jeune Illustration.”  The “Petite Edition” is an invitational children’s book fair for small publishers held at the Salon du Livre in Lyons, France.  At the fair, Beppe Giacobbe signed his two books “Le Roi du Silence” (“The King of Silence”) and the “Catalogue des adieux” (“the Catalog of Farewells”) while Daniele signed his new book “Emma.”
Daniele also sent us this great photo of himself, Simona Mulazzani, and Beppe Giacobbe (all MGI illustrators) at the show.  Click on the photo to see it larger!

News from Steven Tabbutt

Steven Tabbutt sent us an email full of exciting news.  His painting “The Oracles” was chosen as the poster image for Savannah College of Art and Design’s annual juried illustration call for entries poster (see above).
In addition, the fine art publication Studio Visit Magazine will be featuring more of Steven’s work in their Spring 2009 issue- his second inclusion since this past summer.
And last but certainly not least, he’s putting on his first solo show at the Yukiko Kawase Gallery in Paris.
Go Steven!!
