After being introduced to David Lipson’s clever robots via Steven Heller’s awesome article for “Print”, we fell in love. His characters were refreshing and fun, and while he enjoys a lot of success through the Animazing Gallery here in New York, we also thought that his pieces could work well as illustration.
We are pleased to share that it seems some art directors feel similarly, and we recently saw the fruits of his very first job through us – this terrific cover for Scholastic’s “Storyworks”!
Congratulations, David! We look forward to many more exciting assignments with you.
It seems I was a bit premature in posting Sylvie Daingeault’s acceptance into Illustration West’s 49th exhibition, as Steven Tabbutt’s haunting image “Sub-Creation” has been included, as well!
We have received our first contest announcement of 2011, and it comes from the über-talented Sylvie Daigneault, whose arresting piece “Evolution” has been accepted into the 49th Illustration West Competition:
And we look forward to sharing loads of exciting news and announcements with you throughout the year.
The iconic New Yorker dandy ‘Eustace Tilley’ is turning 86 this year, and boy oh boy is he looking sharp!
In celebration of the occasion, the New Yorker is inviting readers to create book-bag versions of our dear friend. Twelve winners will be featured in a slide show curated by art director Francoise Mouly, and one grand prize winner will see their design printed on a Strand Bookstore tote bag – yet another iconic New York fixture – and a $1000 shopping spree. If you are familiar with the Strand’s prices, that’s a lot of books.

We hope that you have all enjoyed a restful holiday season, and that you feel prepared to tackle 2011 head on! We have a lot of great ideas percolating for the New Year, and anticipate some really exciting growth. Let’s all celebrate this clean slate and move forward with more inspiration, greater ambitions, and of course, more fabulous illustration!
