Welcome to Suplex City

ALE+ALE traded their romantic European digs for something a bit more sinister while working on one of our favorite projects from 2016, the inimitable “Suplex City” – home of WWE® 2K17 and the latest addition to the flagship WWE video game franchise.

ALE+ALE: Suplex City intro

Showcasing the ALE’s more ominous side, the atmospheric artwork for Suplex City creates a chilling environment for wrestling fans to engage with their favorite heroes and antiheroes. Per their press release, “WWE 2K17 delivers an unprecedented combination of authenticity, realism and action-packed gameplay in a WWE video game experience, including the largest roster of WWE and NXT Superstars in franchise history”. It was pretty exciting to be involved with something of this magnitude.

Victo Ngai for Apple – Happy Year of the Rooster!

Happy New Year from Victo Ngai and Apple!

Happy Year of the Rooster! We do hope this makes those early mornings a bit easier.

To celebrate the occasion, she participated in a packed event at the Hong Kong Canton Road Apple Store on January 10th, where she shared some behind the scenes moments and also lead the group in a life drawing session.

She also treated the audience to details from her very first commission: it seems that contraband junk food was highly covetable to a third grade Victo.

Silver Medal for Victo Ngai

Superstar Victo Ngai received a wonderful call from the Society of Illustrators, and we are thrilled to announce that she has won a silver medal – along with having 5 singles and one series admitted. This is a huge accomplishment, yet while it ain’t her first rodeo, she remains humbled by the honor.

I am detracting from how deeply meaningful this year’s accolades were for the artist, however. In Victo’s own words:

“Making art and promoting art have been trivial these couple weeks after the presidential election but this piece of good news from society reminds me that art can be the best tool to bring people together, it’s a universal language that embraces all. I have never felt any adverse effect on my career for being a female minority, and I think I have taken that for granted. The current political climate has been a reality check, it reminds me that it’s very easy to hate and demonize, to thinking the world as “us” vs “ them”, while it takes the best of us to understand and empathize. I have been extremely lucky to be born at this time and be working in an industry and living in cities that’s very accepting. I need to remember that I am able to live the life I live now because of those who fought the battles before me, for me.”

Congratulations, Victo, and thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts with us.

Fabulous New York Times Review for Josée Bisaillon!

It seems like we are not alone in swooning over Josée Bisaillon’s adorable children’s book illustrations! We were absolutely tickled to read this wonderful New York Times review of her work for “Mom, Dad, our Books, and Me,” written by Danielle Marcotte.

We were struck and moved by the reviewer’s focus on Josée’s outstanding contributions to the story. Oftentimes, the illustrations are treated as a bit of an afterthought – yet here they were celebrated just as proudly as the strong writing and charming narrative.

Take a look here!
